One is slower. And the vocals are different. But yeah, other than that the similarity is substantial, and its hard not to feel a bit like something about the Washed Out track will never be the same. As good as it is, it kinda needs an asterik from now on.

mp3: “I Want You” - Gary Low (1983)

All keeding aside, I like them both for different reasons. Though I think its pretty clear who has the better video/English pronunciation.

    1. This gary Low track has already been sampled but for a french touch track … Do you remember which one ? I can’t and it’s driving me crazy … It was just the chorus of the beginning of the track …
And, no, I’m not thinking about Sinema “In My Eyes” (also a Gary Low sample …)

    2. Not sure what track you’re thinking of but please let us know when you figure it out!

    3. you may be referring to this:

    4. also sampled on this a few years before:

miss kittin and the hacker - the beach.

    5. There was no doubt in my mind that the stuff is sample based. Nice train spotting though

    6. @Taylo agreed but until I heard it I was assuming it was a blend of, say, one sample for texture, a second one with the beat, and perhaps the bassline and/or melody synths and/or tom fills/percussion were original…but nope, its all there in the original!

    7. I mean until I hear the Gary Low track…and by the way I can’t take trainspotting credit, I found out from the HRO article I linked to, and I’m guessing they found out from Pitchfork (who I also linked to). Interestingly P4k isn’t giving anyone credit for making the connection. But they not only added an “update”, they also changed the title of their original article about Washed Out to give Gary Low equal credit, which I think is significant.

    8. “Heard”! Until I “heard”! Butterfingers…
