Vitalic: Poison Lips, Eye Candy
J’adore Pascal Arbez-Nicolas aka Vitalic and was super excited when the first single to his long awaited new album Flashmob came out this summer. But I was a little disappointed by Your Disco Song because it sounded a little too much like Crystal Castles: the beat, the 8bit sounds, the chopped vocals…I mean, really, Alice and Ethan own that shit. Vitalic was one of the first out of the gate with the 21st C Electro sound, so I was hoping to hear 2010 from this innovative French producer, not 2007.
Thankfully the newest single is a dark pop monster deliciously dripping with sexual mischief and bitterness, and sounds a train ride to the future. A future of tomorrows. Tomorrow’s future: today. (There are many ways to rearrange those words to make them sound like a neologistic cliché. Try it yourself!) I’ve been obsessively listening to it on repeat for a week or so now, not to mention enjoying the adjoining video’s bonbon d’oeil:

This one (from 2001!) still kills:

Vitalic’s new album Flashmob drops this week, pre-order it now.
