D/A/D

By day, 20-year old multi instrumentalist/producer Zach Robinson is a music composition student at Northwestern University in Chicago. By night, he shapeshifts into a fusion of Jan Hammer, Eddie Van Halen and Kavinsky and, as D/A/D, becomes the human embodiment of the year 1985: equal parts synth funk and shred metal, Herbie Hancock and Loose Shus.

I saw D/A/D at one of fellow precocious kid Spencer Ludwig’s $2 shows last summer and he shredded up a storm of gated-reverb drums and DX7 bends. I’ve been meaning to post this for AGES and finally the time is right, as he has just released a brand new EP called “Supermotives” , which features this slow jam straight out of a Miami Vice suspense sequence:

Download “Supermotives” for free right this minute and get 6 solid jams that sound like pastel colored jackets with rolled up sleeves and giant shoulder pads. For extra credit: go check out Zach’s videogame metal band Dracula Mountain.
