Kap Bambino
I saw Kap Bambino at South By Southwest earlier this year and was mesmerized by their supercharged performance. They sound a bit like Crystal Castles + Adult. + Salem, but French. I ‘m sure they’re incredibly tired of hearing that sort of comparison but dammit its true, and a very winning formula. I actually DJ’d before them at one of their SXSW shows and introduced myself somewhat shyly, and they were a million times nicer than I thought they’d be, if only because watching them live requires one to dodge thousands of spiky shards of synths, hard-ass beats and lead singer Martial Caroline herself, who careens across and sometimes off the stage like a deranged Edith Piaf. One fears for ones life, but in a good way.
Anyway I just never got it together to post about them at the time, and since they’re back in the US now (AND apparently I’m in a synthpunk mood these days) the timing is finally right. So listen and join me in the throes of violent new wave hardcore love!
