Robbie Dupree is the fucking king of leisurely boating apparel. I love that this is on youtube, which means someone at one point in 1980 was like dude, SUPER sweet. Robbie Dupree is on tv, we have to video tape that shit. Then, some twenty seven years later that person decided to import it to youtube. Shut the front door. That’s epic.
Well, I am very grateful that people like this exist out there so that the world of smooth AM rock will live eternally. And when youtube no longer exists we can put video tapes of Midnight Special in space capsules and launch them into the galaxy. That way we can never forget how totally awesome the late 70’s was.
I’ve gone to great lengths (searching my personal mp3s…) to find some of the most heart-racing, progressive, and edgy yacht rock out there. It will blooowwww your mind. Plus, I’m pretty sure electro will transition into a happy yacht rock phase pretty soon (if not already). We can only hope.
MP3: Christopher Cross - Ride Like the Wind
I just have one question, what the fuck is he on the run from? Why is he going to mexico? Am I supposed to believe that Christopher Cross would actually do anything so bad that he’d have to skip the country. Christopher Cross seems like his hobbies are knitting with grandma, eating jello with marshmallows in it and sipping cosmopolitans at a lounge in Miami. Also, do you hear Michael McDonald in the background? He’s everywhere! Son of a gun.
MP3: Robbie Dupree - Steal Away
MP3: Starbuck - Moonlight Feels Right
I love this song, but the lyrics make me cringe with its horribly corny romance. It just screams, “I’m going to fuck you, er I mean, make love to you on a fur rug by a fire.” … Ick…
PJ Pooterhoots played an awesome remake of this track on Friday night. When I was a kid I grew up in a strict christian family and we were only allowed to listen to about five “secular cds.” These cds were basically whatever cds my dad chose to randomly buy for 10 dollars in line at the grocery store. All other secular music was completely banned, but the one cd we listened to frequently was “Breezin” by George Benson. Haha, I love it still to this day.

Holy crap, “Steal Away” is such the poor man’s “What A Fool Believes”!
Seriously, check the choruses side by side. Same fucking riff.
Someone should do a “Yacht Rock That Sounds Like Other Yacht Rock” a la “Metal That Sounds Like Other Metal”…

Haha if they made a you tube video like that it would probably be 56 hours long.

Oh, lest I forget, we must add the totally unfairly dissed Justice remix of Klaxons to that list of riff-a-likes…I’m sorry but thats a damn fine (and fucking funny) remix. I guess Justice remixing Klaxons is a little too InterBlog Hall Of Mirrors for most people.

I TOTALLY agree. I feel like I’m the last person on earth or something when it comes to liking that remix. Haha. I lurv that remix.
