Paul McCartney: Electronic Music Innovator?

Paul McCartney was in a band called The Beatles. He also made a pioneering synth/krautrock/weird pop album in 1980, all by his lonesome self (and also an Arp). It’s almost comical how contemporary sounding these songs could be – I’ll bet you could fool your friends into thinking they’re from a new P4K darling band, headlining the next ATP and FYF. But no: they’re from the dude who wrote “Yesterday.”

P.S. And don’t forget he did all the sampling on this…in 1966!

    YES.
I totally agree, though I have doubts you’d ever get people around to acknowledge this.
People are usually totally suprised when I play numbers from this album for them

  • So good, right? Everyone gives Macca a bad time for being sappy but the dude all but invented the idea of looping and sampling, and it was pretty risky for him (a Beatle!) to use drum machines and synths as early as he did. Props!

  • This is completely brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us!
