Alan Braxe: Part Deux
(Ed. note: Johnatron’s gonna kill me cuz this was supposed to be a “co-post” but I’m crazy behind on some stuff and have a DJ thing tomorrow night…but mainly what he wrote is just plain done lookin’ to my eyes, and I have nothing more to add (other than last week’s post about the man)…So here ’tis…xx, BvL)
“Vertigo” came out in 1197 on Roule, the infuentual French Label which also included DJ Falcon (Braxe’s cousin) and Thomas Bangalter among others. The great thing about Roule was that the label had a definite sound (possibly with the exception of the Stardust record). If you didn’t like dubby french disco, walk on by all of the Roule releases. Plus the cover work was very distinctive. They all looked like the sleeve pictured above. Although this is not necessarily quite the sound Braxe is making anymore (or any of the other Frenchmen involved in Roule for that matter), it is an important piece of history.

Now, in comparison, “Addicted” sounds like the bastard child of Timbaland (see Ayo Technology), “Energy Flash“, and teenage warehouse parties. This came out or is coming out on “Vulture”, Braxe’s own label. To tell the truth, I don’t even know if it is out yet. Thanks to the doubled edged sword that is the internet I could not find much info on the release but found about a million copies of the mp3.
Bonus: The song that started it all.

See you Friday night at Mezzanine, SF!

xx,
Johnatron and Baron von Luxxury (but mostly Johnatron [though it is I, BvL, typing the "signed by" part, which counts for a lil' something]).
