KOTO: more italo you can’t live without

chicks were such babes in 1986

Memory Records, ran by Stefano Cundari, birthed some of the most brilliant and melodic italo disco of the mid 1980’s. Koto came out of the Memory Records gang and was actually a pseudonym for Stefano Cundari. Cundari not only produced bouncy synth riffs with Koto, but he was the brains behind Baby’s Gang and Cyber People. I was totally stoked when I found out that Koto did a cover of “Crockett’s Theme.” I’m so enamored by the bleak metropolis created by Crockett’s theme despite the cheery substance of Miami Vice. Koto’s “Japanese War Game” is also well worth the listen since it beeps with an Atari-like giddiness. It escalates into a crystal clouds type fever then pumps its electronic fist to factory like bass hits.
