Dee D. Jackson: More disco you can’t live without
Dee D. Jackson is something of a galactic nymph as her voice echoes over swedish-esque disco melodies. Her album “Cosmic Curves” is canonized as one of the most enjoyable records from the brief “space disco” period of the late seventies/early eighties. The 1978 single “Automatic Lover” off of Cosmic Curves became an international success prompting so much fervor in Brazil that a double was needed to appear on television as Dee D. Jackson herself. The track detailed a story in which Dee D. Jackson confesses her romantic loneliness, only to be satisfied by a robotic lover. The song’s chorus sounds like a mystical choir, as if you’ve been touched by the eleventh dimension of space and time. The lyrics are slightly absurd if read literally, but the way the song is woven together makes it sentimentally awesome.
My personal favorite track off the album is “Galaxy of Love.” It’s a track that is completely reminiscent of late seventies American AM-pop, but includes those brightly lit synths that make disco so charming. What can I say, I’m a huge sucker for AM-pop and synths. I feel like I should be transported to the Never Ending Story when I hear this track.

MP3: Dee D. Jackson – Galaxy of Love
She’s gorgeous, like a space-cadet Stevie Nicks.

Yes she’d brilliant – I think Automatic Lover was produced by Giorgio Moroder. She deserves a lot more love than she’s had.
I played Dee Dee as part of Radio Clash’s Space Disco espisodes – her best track after Automatic Lover is called ‘Falling’ and is a beautiful ambient song, something you don’t usually get in space disco
