Funked Up and Bumped Down

fabulous stains
Sophomore is a young artist currently residing in SF with a talent for creating breathy funk-sampled jams. “Too Status” weaves old school funk with a sardonic eighties-sounding voice sample. It’s also co-produced by one of our favorites, Reflex. It’s quite a pleasure to feature this track, especially since it harkens back to the funky bass slaps of sexploitation flick soundtracks.

MP3: Sophomore & Reflex – Too Status
Sferro, of Girlfriend Records, has done an enigmatic remix of Funked Up’s “No Ditchin.” I think that Sferro has immense talent that is being slowly uncovered as his songs get released. The usage of disco bell drops is amazingly poignant in the midst of an intense electronic thrust. Sferro’s remix is like a cybernetic hurricane of acceleration.
