Bogdan Irkük, also known as BULGARI, is one of those rare artists that meticulously integrates the emotional space of progressive house with the funk of italo-disco. BULGARI states he is from Bulgaria, but he sounds suspiciously from the area of northern lights. His music illuminates that Lindstrom sound gorgeously, but with a particularly unique and funky twist.
The crackling beginning of “Everything is Changing” echoes in a somber swirl of winter-drenched keyboards. You feel slowly throttled into an open space that is as optimistic as it is desolate as the synthesizers slowly switch between melodic and bleak. The breakdown ushers in quite a factory-crunch bass line that quickly disintegrates into the perfect heart-breaking anthem for rollerskating teenagers in 1983. “Everything is Changing” came out on Soul Jazz Records on the EP of the same name.

“The Distant Message” plays out like a perfect synth pop jam from a 1982 German italo scene. Bulgari’s vocoded vocals are so intensely comforting in contrast to the drenched anguish of the synths and bass.
